What We Do

Kingston Creative is an organization who believes in “Art for Social Transformation”. We believe that Kingston is the Creative Capital of the Caribbean and that the cultural and creative industries can be a catalyst for national development. We are focusing our placemaking efforts on Downtown Kingston, a relatively neglected area of the capital city of Jamaica, in large part surrounded by marginalized communities. We believe that by bringing the city to life, branding, investing in infrastructure, hosting art events and developing capacity in community-based organizations and creative entrepreneurs, we can make Downtown into a destination – a vibrant Art District and hub for urban and cultural tourism.

Kingston Creative seeks to empower Caribbean creatives and position Downtown Kingston as a city destination ripe for exploration by people craving history, heritage and culture. We view Downtown Kingston as a global cultural and music mecca, well suited to cultural tourism.

Kingston Creative is now a member of the Global Cultural Districts Network (www.GCDN.net), and is listed along with other art districts in Paris, Sydney and London. The strategy is to create a world-renowned Art District and Creative Hub in the old city and we are in the process of implementing the following projects; Art District branding, Art District maps, large-scale Street Art murals, urban art parks, sculptures/public art and a co-working space and business accelerator for creatives slated to open at the end of 2019.

{Maxwanette A Poetess} I have been writing poetry since the age of 5. I enjoy poetic expression and feel that, "Everyone Is A Poet." We all speak and in our speech, we express a message, that is usually attached to an emotion and or feeling. To me, this is poetry in it's natural form. I like to provide a forum to share my poetry, the poetry of others, writing resources, positive vibes & more.
